Your mission
As our legal and compliance counsel, you will focus on several areas of law, namely: ICT (in particular cybersecurity/ethical hacking), data protection, commercial, employment and corporate law. Depending on your preferences and strengths, you will have a deeper focus one or more specific areas of law.

You will report to the General Counsel, based in Antwerp, and will closely cooperate with external law firms, both in Belgium, the United Kingdom and abroad. Occasional travel may be required.

What you’ll be doing
Your tasks may for example include:

  • Advising the business on a broad range of legal and compliance matters.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements and keeping templates up to date.
  • Reviewing new (software) features and products and giving instructions on how to develop and implement these in a compliant manner.
  • Monitoring and assisting with the implementation of new laws and regulations.
  • Taking initiatives to optimize legal and contracting processes.
  • Managing and periodically reviewing insurance policies, in cooperation with our brokers.
  • Reviewing and advising on the improvement of compliance process (e.g. AML, sanctions screening).
  • Training our business departments in legal matters relevant to their function.
  • Managing corporate transaction projects.
  • Corporate governance.
What you’ll bring
  • Master’s degree in laws (Belgium or England and Wales)
  • +5 years of experience as an attorney or legal counsel, with a focus on 1 or more of the following areas of law: ICT – data protection – commercial – contracting – intellectual property – corporate – employment.
  • Interest in tech/ cybersecurity and the ability and willingness to understand technical concepts, processes and limitations.
  • Fluent in English
  • Problem solver with a can-do attitude (not afraid of unknown challenges).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and skilled at quickly spotting and flagging issues.
  • Pragmatic, business-oriented (explaining legal matters in a manner understandable for the relevant business department, focusing on practical implementation rather than theory).
